Republican attorney general candidate Jack McMullen announced the release of three TV ads on Monday. The ad clips focus on McMullen’s pitch as a non-partisan candidate and his proposed solutions to drug-related crime.
One of the ads says the Democratic Vermont attorney general “needs to apply the law evenly to all, including his own party.” The narrator says: “Bill Sorrell seems to believe he can create arbitrary rules that supersede the law when it doesn’t fit his activist agenda and re-election.”
Last week the Vermont Attorney General’s Office announced an investigation into conservative super PAC Vermonters First for campaign finance violations. Previously, Sorrell ignored requests to probe alleged co-ordination between his own campaign and a Democrat-backed super PAC, the Democratic Attorneys General Association, despite complaints from the Vermont GOP.
McMullen said last week that he’d reopen a criminal investigation (link is to Burlingon Free Press article) into Progressive politician Bob Kiss’ role in the Burlington Telecom financing episode.
McMullen’s latest report for his TV ad purchases show that he spent about $76,000 on TV ads earlier this month.
The ads are slated to run through Election Day on Nov. 6, according to an email from McMullen’s campaign.
